At the core of every Great Books program is a focus on the foundational skills that make great leaders: critical thinking, reflective and analytical reading, respectful discourse, reasoned and articulate written and spoken communication.

Build Skills through Shared Inquiry
Great Books Summer Program students explore important ideas through the time-honored teaching method of Shared Inquiry – teaching by asking questions. It encourages in each student the habit of close, reflective, analytical reading and critical thinking. It also teaches empathy and communication skills as students engage together in probing dialogue, in civil discourse, about the big ideas that shape our lives and world.
Develop as a Thinker
Participants develop the ability to identify key concepts in readings and more readily understand the subtleties in literature and in life. Shared Inquiry makes students stronger and more rigorous thinkers. They learn to reason and build arguments supported by evidence, the foundation of good writing. It makes articulate communicators who are better prepared to thrive in increasingly competitive universities and careers.
Grow as a Leader
Whether students aspire to a future in the humanities, STEM, or both, the skills gained at Great Books are excellent preparation for leadership roles across disciplines. Great Books & Big Ideas Program
Rising Grades 6-8, 9-12, Gap Year. Residential, Day, Online.
With literature and philosophy as a catalyst for lively seminars, Great Books students embark on an amazing intellectual journey. This program is designed to challenge and support curious minds and prepare them to take command of their own best thinking and powers of self-expression.
Students gain skills in close and reflective reading while they learn to identify key concepts, reason, and build arguments supported by evidence – the foundations for critical thinking and effective speaking and writing. This program delivers excellent preparation for college classes, for the life skill of thinking well on one’s feet, and for the SAT Reading and Writing section.
Reasoning and Persuasive Skills for Leaders
Rising Grades 9-12, Gap Year. Residential & Day.
In this highly efficient, immersive program, participants learn to take their critical thinking and personal powers of self-expression to new peaks. A unique blend of lively, skill-building seminars, active debates, and hands-on projects helps participants synthesize new skills. Fun, impromptu challenges put learning to the test, giving participants real-life practice in problem-solving and thinking on their feet.
