A number of special features set the multiple week sessions apart. First, students who come for two or three weeks will be able to experience entirely new academic content each session they attend —new readings, fresh lectures and unique speakers and guests.
Also unique to the multi-week programs are the weekend excursions. Taking place on the Saturday in between sessions, all campers head out to an exciting location near their campus. Past excursion have taken students at Stanford to The Winchester Mystery House, Fisherman's Wharf and Alcatraz, and to the Monterey Peninsula. At Amherst, students have visited Boston where they took part in Duck Tours, visited Harvard, and toured the JFK Memorial Library. Both locations offer exciting Saturday programming for students to enjoy.
We are planning our excursions for summer 2011 - check back to see the wonderful places we will be exploring this year.
Extended programs provide the opportunity for students to forge lasting friendships and immerse themselves more fully in the great books and big ideas of our program. Please visit the program pages for more information about the benefits of multi-week sessions for students in the Intermediate and the Senior Program.
The Great Books Summer Program offers two-week and three-week sessions for all students at Stanford University and Amherst College.
